Nearly lost to history, the Pacific Islanders’ art of epic open-ocean navigation has been revived and passed on. Kaleo Wong, one of HOKULEA’S navigators, explains how such navigators “read” the sky and the sea.

Japanese Boatbuilding

Using tools and joinery techniques unique to Japan, boatbuilders carry on traditions thousands of years old. Douglas Brooks, who has written a new book on the subject, has worked with numerous master craftsmen in Japan.
